1. Please introduce yourself.

Hi! I'm Alex, an English teacher and musician from the UK. After finishing my MA in History at University College London in 2021, I lived in Korea for two years and taught English there. Now I'm back on home soil and carving out a dual career as an educator and musician.

2. When did you start Ringle and how did you find out about it?

I began Ringle in early 2023. After moving back to the UK, I was keen to stay connected to Korea in some way. Some of my friends using the platform as students recommended it to me.

3. Can you share your most memorable lesson on Ringle?

One of my most memorable moments on Ringle was finding out that the student I helped prepare for a series of job interviews at Google successfully secured his dream position. We were both delighted with the outcome!

4. What makes your teaching style unique?

Fundamentally, I focus on inspiring English learners' confidence in their own abilities. In class, I always celebrate the small wins — telling your first joke in English, describing a tricky concept using new vocabulary, or figuring out the exact words to express how you're feeling. I help students to see their own potential and make small but consistent gains that have a lasting effect beyond the classroom.

5. How often do you teach on Ringle and how do you manage your time?

Outside of the 20 hours a week I spend teaching on Ringle, I enjoy a busy schedule as a piano and singing teacher. Having the flexibility to fit Ringle classes around my other teaching commitments has been vital in allowing me to do this!

6. Any advice for new Ringle tutors?

Meet students where they're at, and don't overcomplicate things. For every high-level, virtually-fluent English learner who has lived abroad for years, there are also many students who have never taken an online English class before. There's no script here: the most valuable classes are the ones that pique students' interests and give them the confidence to use their English to the best of their ability, regardless of level. Most importantly, form a connection with each student, every single time.
