Jan 2024 Tutor of the Month - Nabilah Shah

2024.01.31

Q. Please introduce yourself.

Hello, I’m Nabilah. I graduated from Oxford University with a Master’s degree in English (1830-1914). Currently, I am dividing my time between furthering my postgraduate research, reading novels, increasing my knowledge, and gaining new experiences.

Q. When did you start Ringle, and how did you find out about it?

I have been teaching at Ringle since April 2022. I discovered Ringle through my university; the flexible working hours and convenient Ringle Packets made it a fitting choice. Working at Ringle has allowed me to travel around Europe, try new things, and meet people from all walks of life.

Q. Can you share your most memorable lesson on Ringle?

One of the most memorable moments includes helping people in the creative industries express their thoughts as authentically as possible. Working with translated texts has given me an understanding of how challenging it can be to convey intentions accurately in another language. There's nothing more satisfying than seeing that lightbulb moment when someone finds the right words to express themselves comfortably.

Q. What makes your teaching style unique?

I endeavour to create an environment where people feel comfortable and aren't afraid to make mistakes. In the first few minutes of my session, I learn about my student, gauge their level, reaffirm their requirements, and adjust my teaching style accordingly. When I make corrections, I check in with my students regularly to ensure they understand and that we are on the same page. Also, rather than solely correcting and teaching grammar, I engage with my student's perspectives, which often encourages them to expand on their points naturally. I do most of my intensive grammatical feedback in the reports.
